Application
Aluminum for Building & Curtain Wall
Facade work is a coating problem first and a metal problem second. PVDF film thickness and anodizing class are what the specifier checks.

What Each Grade Does in Building & Curtain Wall
An application page that lists five grades without saying what each one is for is a catalogue, not a specification. These are the roles they actually play here.
| Grade | The job it does here | Detail |
|---|---|---|
| 3003 | General cladding, gutter and flashing coil, where the panel is painted and the alloy only has to form and last. | Specs → |
| 3105 | Longer-span roofing and facade panels; slightly stronger than 3003 at the same gauge. | Specs → |
| 6063 | Window, door and curtain wall profiles — the extrusion alloy with the best anodizing response. | Specs → |
| 6061 | Structural brackets and fixings inside the facade system, where heat-treated strength is needed. | Specs → |

Specification Mistakes That Cost Money Here
None of these is exotic. All of them arrive on real enquiries, and each one adds a round trip before a price can be issued.
1. Buying on alloy and price, then meeting the coating class for the first time. AAMA 2605 and AAMA 2604 are different exposure regimes, and the price gap between them is real.
2. Specifying film build without specifying the primer. The colour warranty depends on the full coating system, not on topcoat thickness alone.
3. Mixing coil suppliers across one facade. Two coil sources rarely match colour exactly, and the joint is where it shows.
4. Forgetting fire classification. EN 13501-1 applies to the composite panel as a system, not to the aluminium skin on its own.

What We Put in Writing for This Application
- Mill test certificate to the class your file requires — 2.2 or 3.1 — carrying the actual mechanical test values for the heat.

Building & Curtain Wall — Questions That Come Up
3105 or 3003 for a standing seam roof?
3105 where the span is long, 3003 where it is short. Ask for both prices at your gauge before deciding — on a coated panel the difference between the two alloys is often smaller than the difference between two coating systems.
What does AAMA 2605 actually require?
It is a performance specification built on ten years of South Florida exposure, covering colour change, chalking and adhesion. AAMA 2604 is a shorter and less severe regime and is not a substitute for it on a warranted facade.
Can anodized and painted panels be used on the same facade?
Only with deliberate colour and gloss matching. The two finishes weather differently and fail differently, and the joint between them is where any mismatch shows first.
